Tash Hills – Sunday Love (2024)

Known for her energetic, enthusiastic, electric shows, singer-songwriter Tash Hills is known as one of the most exciting musicians on the UK scene. Breaking boundaries with genre-diverse sounds, Hills serenades audiences with her unique twirl of pop, funk, blues and soul. Interestingly, while her music is a nostalgic flood of vintage sounds, a strong contemporary edginess makes it perfect for modern-day listeners.

Hills intoxicates international audiences with her moving melodies, yet it is the lyricism that truly resonates. Empowering and optimistic, she acknowledges the grittiness of life but acts as a beacon of light in the dark. With her single ‘Dancing Tonight’, she explored the power of true, honest romantic love; ‘Diamond Life’ spoke about self-love and “how to be confident and know you are enough…” Her most recent single, ‘Sunday Love’, captures the feel-good vibes simmering beneath the acceptance of your awesomeness.

Following her critically acclaimed single ‘Never Have I’, ‘Sunday Love’ adds further diversity to Hills’ sound incorporating an electronic element in the melody. Bold synth beats drive through the track; however, her signature neo-soul with nu-funk slides alongside. A concoction of twinkling keyboards, bold guitar, dynamic bass, and sassy horns offer the vintage funk tone. Moreover, a slice of modern-day pop flutters through ‘Sunday Love’.

Produced by Flourish, who adds his own flourish to the song, ‘Sunday Love’ is melodically infectious with the harmonic symphony. For me, it is Hills’ voice that is the cherry on the top. Subdued huskiness oozes from her dulcet vocals with soothing sensuality; however, as alluring as the hushed-ness may be, a slight bounciness finds the delicate line between smooth and upbeat… then blurs it.

Not necessarily filled with the sincerity or sentimentality as ‘Never Have I’ or ‘Dancing Tonight’, there is no profound complexity to ‘Sunday Love’. Instead, this song is the perfect tribute to laidback nights chilling out with a cool glass of whatever and a grin on your face.
