Tarn PK – Sky Is Falling (2020)

Hailing from the rolling hills of New Zealand, Tarn PK is a 20-year-old pop meets folk singer-songwriter. With his charming and sophisticated voice, this young artist can take you from upbeat finger-snapping to lying back in a pool of cool water. Taking influence from Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, Tarn released his single ‘Serenity’ to critical acclaim. Now we’re looking at the latest addition to his repertoire – ‘Sky Is Falling’.

The second single off his upcoming EP Monarch, ‘Sky Is Falling’ is a smooth and melodic single. Combining the soulfulness of old-school folk ballads with a modern synth-based undertone, Tarn PK shows innovativeness in effortlessly melding genres. Not one to be pigeon-holed, he shows his versatility with ‘Sky Is Falling’ being much slower than the upbeat pop track ‘Serenity’.Think Sam Mendes meets Charlie Puth but as a much slower soundscape with acoustic elements.

With his charming, soulful voice, Tarn PK’s new single forces one to step away from existential chaos to surreal calm. While ‘Sky Is Falling’ does have a sense of melancholic nostalgia, particularly with the emotive lyricism and vocals, it also presents elements of hopefulness and optimism. Noted as “a song to heal, to support and to ultimately offer uplift in some way to each listener”, Tarn PK has created a few minutes of wistful relaxation with a soothingly motivational chaser.
