Tarita – Summer Fling (2024)

At the age of 20, singer-songwriter Tarita began a musical journey performing improvised cover music with various bands; then, the journey came to a halt. While the door might be shut, it was never truly closed but rather ajar. Skip ahead 18 years and the “scientist by day and musician by night” Tarita re-emerges with renewed zest. With only two singles to her name, Tarita is a minnow in a pool of sharks but, despite her new-ness, she is turning heads internationally.

Following her debut single ‘Digital Void’, released earlier this year, Tarita releases the sophomore single ‘Summer Fling’. A collaboration with Marcin Bukowski, Marcin Julius and Carlos Bautista, ‘Summer Fling’ was recorded at a studio in Poland. Shifting from the heavier alternative rock meets blues ‘Digital Void’, the new single reaches out with soulful blues. Yet, while the core of the song is blues-inspired, slivers of old-school folk-rock weave through the sonic tapestry.

Capturing the core of acoustic simplicity in the melody, Tarita combines laidback beats, moving guitars and wistful vocals in the mystical tune. Breathing life to 70s folk-rock sounds, ‘Summer Fling’ reminds me of Fleetwood Mac with a strong Carole King vibe to the vocals. Chilled and calm, listening to ‘Summer Fling’ is like being caressed by a soft breeze; however, while it is soothing, there is a light vulnerability twirling about. Confident and sophisticated but fragile and tender, ‘Summer Fling’ elegantly encapsulates the concept of “summer love”.

Sultry and intoxicating, ‘Summer Fling’ captures the excitement of a fleeting holiday romance in its melody. The buzz and the thrill, the secret smiles and breath-taking blushing – ‘Summer Fling’ brings a rush of joy lifting your heart. Interestingly, while you float through bubbles of champagne-coloured exhilaration, a hint of vulnerability wriggles about your brain from the initial hesitation to the closing satisfaction of a blissful experience. Tarita explains:

“’Summer Fling’ is…a laidback melody with relatable lyrics that speak to the transient nature of holiday romances. With a hint of hesitancy at the start, the song gradually unfolds into a tale of wanting to spend more time with someone special – just like those moments when the rain unexpectedly adds to the beauty of the day.”
