Tara Noble – Feel Better (2021)

With her debut single, Tara Noble has crafted a response to the last year and an explanation of the effect it had on her mental health. Through the tones of ‘Feel Better’, she explains the ups and downs of lockdown and makes a promise to herself that things will get better. While this is a message to herself, it is one that a lot of people need.

With a hint of nostalgia for the way things used to be, she fills you with the fight to move forward and envision a better future. This is mixed with catchy pop harmonies and soft pastel colours that wash away the problems of the day. As a debut single, she is setting the bar with her alternative pop sound.

Noble’s vocals open ‘Feel Better’ which lets you dip into her thoughts from the first moment. There is a hint of nostalgia in her voice as she draws you into a contemplation of the past. Her performance is very powerful on the verses as she calls out into the melody. The harmonisations on the chorus as the more dance vibe tones hit adds a dreaminess to the track. The lyrics have a great structure as they draw you into thoughts that we have all had in the last year. It is a perfect response to the last year while contemplating the emotional reactions we have all had.

The opening of the track has a very light melody with just a deep drone in the low level that builds as you creep to the chorus. There are these high tones that swirl around your head adding to the dreamy feeling of the single. On the chorus, you are hit with pulses of electronic tones that have a dance vibe. The dance beats do make you want to move but there is a heaviness to them that stops them from shivering through your senses.

Tara Noble offers the perfect response to the last year while letting you dip into her thoughts and emotions with ‘Feel Better’. Her voice draws you into contemplations filled with nostalgia and a consideration of her emotional response to the pandemic. This is bolstered by the rise and fall of the melody that pulses with light dance beats.
