T-R-E – Misused (2022)

With a splash of retro tones and some chilled vibes, T-R-E is taking a look at all the things we misuse, whether we realise what we are doing or not in ‘Misused’. While offering a look at all the things we misuse, the single is also a song for these items. An interesting take on the concept, the melodic electronic tones of the track have a light dance vibe that gets you moving, while considering the lyrics.

This song about misused things comes from the musical brain of Marcus Krakowsky, a producer and electronic music creator. Created in his private studio, the single is another step in his melodic journey that started when he founded this project in 1996. Using music packed with great basses and movements that grab your limbs, he sucks you into an enjoyable listening experience.

‘Misused’ has an interesting opening that grabs your attention with a patter of tones that takes on a serious retro vibe. There is a vastness to the synths as they crash over the pattering notes before the depths of the deeper electronic notes reach down into the nether. Each synth line seems to be doing its own thing, but they come together so perfectly for a driving momentum. You can’t help but move to their rhythm, whether it is bopping your head or tapping your feet. Later in the track, a more melodic line reaches out over the synth to give the body of the single. This electronic line almost seems to be singing against the deep dance thump of the beat.

There are a lot of textures to this single that merge and diverge, keeping you wondering what will happen next. The pattering tones of the opening make a reappearance throughout the single while the vocals bring a giggle that weaves between the electronic tones. While there are no set lyrics, you can feel yourself falling down a rabbit hole of sound that leads you into the place where all misused items reside. In the latter parts of the track, there is a rise to the sound that lifts everything for a final forward push, before you fall into the waterfall of glitter that leads you to the end of the track.

T-R-E brings something new and unique to our ears as he layers textured synths, deep dance beats and giggling vocals in ‘Misused’. The single has an interesting tone from the first second, with pattering notes grabbing your attention and leading you to the forward momentum of the synths. The textured layering of the single is masterful and has you hooked from start to finish.
