SWYDE – Takin’ My Time (2024)
Pushing the borders of pop music in contemporary society, SWYDE takes a step back 20 years bringing the essence of the Y2K era to modern-day audiences. If you haven’t heard of SWYDE before, you’re not necessarily alone as they only began releasing music this year. Yet, despite their newbie status, the group are not rough pebbles in a pool but a shining gem peeking out amidst the rubble, the swan in a gaggle of geese. Oozing bold pink pop pride, the band take a daring leap with sounds of a decade they barely experienced; join us as we delve headfirst into their debut single ‘Takin’ My Time’.
Technically the release of their debut single, ‘Takin’ My Time’ has already made a couple of appearances for SWYDE. Along with the radio edit (the one shooting through our speakers), both a slowed-down and sped-up remix can be heard; but, as we mentioned, we’re taking a listen to the radio version.
A concoction of bold beats pulsating through synth-driven swirls of electronic pop, I can easily imagine ‘Takin’ My Time’ intoxicating listeners at any rave or club. For me, ‘Takin’ My Time’ is a nostalgic drag to those nights at clubs swooning in a blissful rush of hypnotic music. The sounds that lifted weighty cares and concerns offering a bright breath of relief, all while twirling about in a kaleidoscopic haze. A soul-stirring interplay between restlessness and restfulness so desperately needed.
No need for too many words, ‘Takin’ My Time’ is a melodic expression of just that: taking your time to de-stress and rediscover the joy of life. Celebration, joviality, hope and optimism bound in a four-minute-long tune – it’s exactly what we need in the humdrum of daily life.
In addition to the single, SWYDE released an official music video for ‘Takin’ My Time’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
