SVYNX – Harvest Season (2023)

Influenced by the likes of The Armed and Mother’s Cake, penning themes that tap at the core of reality, and bring beats to disarm but soothe listeners – SVYNX is a pioneer in the modern rock world. Described as exhilarating and energetic, Tobias Lübbers (guitar) and Wolfgang Füßenich (drums) can thrill people with their melodies while making profound statements in the lyrics. This is my introduction to SVYNX, but the pair have been making music for over five years, well at least according to Spotify. Come with me as I delve into SVYNX’s latest single ‘Harvest Season’.

Created during the Covid-19 lockdown period, ‘Harvest Season’ was a means of escapism from the trying pandemic years in an uncertain society; and it still is a tribute to escapism even during this post-pandemic period. Adopting a DIY approach to music production, ‘Harvest Season’ was penned, recorded and produced by the lads of SVYNX with mixing by RRENIMarts. I find this independent production adds a sense of rawness to singles and this is evident in the new single. Yet, while raw, a sense of elegant sophistication wraps about the arrangement.

Following the well-received single ‘Art Won’t Save Me Now’, SVYNX expands their dark, gritty combination of prog rock into an alternative pop bubble with ‘Harvest Season’. A rock song by nature with crashing drums and hard-hitting guitars, the single lurks above the grittiness of life; however, slips of futuristic electronica slice bright lights of hopefulness in the dark melody. This is interesting as it perfectly expresses the complex concept of crawling in the societal mire of despair but with a hint of empowerment tinged across the track. SVYNX explains:

“We think that in our modern world, everyone sells a part of themselves to get by. Injustice is part of modern society. Sometimes we need to take a stance and do what’s right… The song is using modern agriculture as a metaphor of our everyday struggles in society. For it’s “what you reap is what you sow”, on the other hand, it’s “sink or swim”…”

In addition to the single, SVYNX released an official music video for ‘Harvest Season’. You can view the video below or via their YouTube channel.
