Super Saiyan Jay – Can I (2024)
In November 2023, The Other Side Reviews was introduced to singer-songwriter Super Saiyan Jay with his single ‘Staying In’. With a rush of soothing hip-hop music, the US-based artist kept us enchanted from beginning to end; however, we are not the only ones losing their heads to Super Saiyan Jay. In 2019, he released his single ‘Demons and Monsters’ which received critical acclaim across North America, South America, Australia and Europe. Join us as we delve into his latest single, ‘Can I’.
Following the well-received singles ‘Staying In’ and ‘GC Presents An Unplanned Christmas’ (a collaboration between Super Saiyan Jay and King Dev), ‘Can I’ takes us back to the basics. Retaining the soothing flow of ‘Staying In’, ‘Can I’ brings a calm, cool and smooth melody; but the flood of his original bluntness as a rapper slices through the track. Super Saiyan Jay explains:
“The song is going back to simpler times within my music making and I wanted to give more of a laidback approach. This song is a feel-good type of track, but I express my confidence throughout the song…”
With ‘Staying In’, Super Saiyan Jay offered a melodic twirl of escapism “not wanting to go out and finding solace staying inside and comfort while being at home”. The concept was profound, but the overall theme is to build a laidback vibe in which people can feel safe. I find it intriguing how this calm escapism eclipses into an optimistic empowerment to pursue life within the laidback groove. Super Saiyan Jay further notes:
“The song speaks for itself expressing confidence within the song… I just wanna chill and catch a vibe. I express that throughout all of my music, but this one in particular best fits the mood… Don’t know how the world gonna take it, but I gotta make it.”
In addition to the single, Super Saiyan Jay released an audio video for ‘Can I’. You can view it below on his YouTube channel.
