Sunset Salore – Call It (2024)

With her red hair and soulful eyes, Sunset Salore is the embodiment of a beautiful sunset but with the attitude of no-nonsense empowerment, optimism and inner strength. As a Northern Ireland native, Sunset Salore become part of the Belfast musical culture surrounded by eclectic artists in her early twenties. With a keen interest in live music, she explored the Belfast haunts and after relocating to Australia, continued making waves in the local Melbourne scene. The latest addition to her repertoire is the single ‘Call It’.

The first release in three years, ‘Call It’ sees Sunset Salore step in a new direction on her musical journey. Previous material leaned toward a wistful, delicate pop sound, but ‘Call It’ is full-bodied, bold, rich and pushing the borders of modern-day pop. With a slight reminiscence of Florence Welch, Sunset Salore’s vocals have an off-kilter obscurity to its timbre perfect for funk and powerful pop. Yet, just as there is the hint of Welch, Sunset Salore inserts a smooth subtlety that can be found at any jazz club.

While Sunset Salore’s vocals are prominent binding the tune, ‘Call It’ is a bubble of toe-tapping sound encapsulating its comfort in all ways. Produced with Spud Thompson, the soul-soothing blend of guitars, drums and bass wrap about you as a warm embrace with empowering soulfulness. Drawing on life experiences, ‘Call It’ is the sonic representation of raw emotion and personal narratives. Sunset Salore explains:

“’Call It’ is about addressing all the little micro-moments in a relationship that don’t stack up anymore, and in that moment deciding to call time on everything… This song allowed me to reflect on these critical moments which changed by trajectory in life and explore more deeply the feelings we don’t sit comfortably with at the time… As a society we use labels a lot, but sometimes in relationships we can be scared to label things at all. ‘Call It’ seeks to throw out the notion that labels materially change the accountability each party brings to the table in the relationship. It really matters how we treat each other…”
