Sunset Capone – Shattered Dreams (2021)

All of us have dreams and while we are able to see some come true, there are others that are left behind or broken beyond repair. With the aptly titled single ‘Shattered Dreams’, Sunset Capone reflects on a life met with constant struggles and dreams that are broken by things outside our control. With relatable lyrics and musical power that won’t stop, he fills you with the painful emotions of shattered dreams and the knowledge that you are not alone in this.

These emotions are masterfully placed in a fusion of pop and emo that showcases the musicality Capone has to offer. Over his career so far, he has shared the stage with acts including Megadeth and Godsmack while collaborating with various rappers. Drawing on his experience, he forges an intense sound that leaves you reeling from the emotional hits.

‘Shattered Dreams’ has a rather experimental feeling to the opening as you are pulled into an almost dream-like soundscape. The electronic tones wash over you with pop sensibilities while the beats are all trap. While there is an experimental edge to the track, this is covered in a rather chill vibe that is woven into the melody. It is a very interesting amalgamation of tones and styles that works so well with the message of the track.

As the melody pulls you into the soundscape, Capone’s vocals are hazy sunlight reaching through the music to your soul. There is a hit of emo in his performance as he dredges the pain of shattered dreams from the depths. This is tempered by the rather easy flow of his performance. It is reflective, personal and utterly enthralling. The layering and echoing added to the performance enhances the reflective and dreamy feeling while getting the song firmly stuck in your brain.

Sunset Capone washes you with the emotions of ‘Shattered Dreams’ while getting the single stuck in your brain. The melody is a combination of tones and styles with an experimental edge that makes it a joy to listen to. His vocals bring a hazy layer to the top of the already dream-like music putting you in a reflective state of mind.
