The Other Side Reviewstrack of the day

Track of the Day: Sunday Hunter – Illogical Sphere

With experience as a frontwoman for various, pop/rock and electronic/experimental groups, singer-songwriter Sunday Hunter certainly has knowledge of various genres. Now, she chooses to meld those styles into one boundary-breaking sound. Influenced by the likes of Frank Zappa, Australia-based Hunter hones her craft with an eclectic solo project.

Already an established producer and singer, she has supported artists like Magic Dirt and Sneaky Sound System. Moreover, she has featured in Rising Artists Blog, Carte Blanche Music, Sinusoidal Music and Less Than 1000 Followers reaching audiences outside her native Australia.

On the heels of her songs ‘Reckless Deadly’ and ‘Bleeding Hearts Club’ (read our review here), ‘Illogical Sphere’ is an obscure combination of electropop, alternative pop with hints of funk meets jazz. The opening guitar takes you adrift on synth-filled dreamy soundscape; however, this soothing ambience does not remain exclusive. Weaving jazz-rock style guitar riffs, there is a kaleidoscopic whirlpool of haziness, so you don’t quite know what type of music you are listening to. All you know is that it fills your soul with excitement and takes you into another dimension of, well, being.

The eclectic melody inspires with its movement from bouncy to staccato to soothing flow, but it is Sunday Hunter’s vocals that highlight the expert texturing of ‘Illogical Sphere’. Weaving her rich, bold and unique voice through the tapestry of sound, you see a shining light in this sonic bubble.

What I find intriguing is the conceptual theme of ‘Illogical Sphere’. Sunday Hunter shares that the track “…is about losing grip on reality and getting stuck in a cycle of illogical thought and behaviour. The illogical sphere is an analogy for the whole world being an illogical place driving us all a little crazy”. Needless to say, many people can relate to the feelings of frustration, confusion and madness that exists in our uncertain society.
