Sugar Nova – I Wouldn’t Worry (2023)

If you think about it, I mean really think about it, the idea of an electropop musician with an indie-rock singer might not be the best match – Sugar Nova proves this wrong. The collaboration between singer Rachel Eisenstat and Luke Miller (from the band Lotus), Sugar Nova fuses indie-pop, electronica, disco and dream-pop with a soulful flair. Formed in 2022, the US-based pair might be newbies as Sugar Nova, but their experience and influences give them a sophisticated, mature vibe. Featured on Music Arena GH, ParaPOP, Music For All and PopHits News, the pair are considered “mesmerising” and “a fresh new voice in the world of electronic pop”. We can see this in their single ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’.

Following their tracks ‘Send Me Higher’, ‘Tiny Helicopters’ and ‘Gospel Hour (2 AM)’, ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’ is the fourth single from Sugar Nova’s upcoming debut album (set for release in 2023). Produced by multi-instrumentalist Luke Miller, ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’ send you drifting off on a glistening sonic river. Underlying Eisenstat’s powerful vocals, the synth-drive melody adds a contemporary electropop sound to ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’. A unique element of this song is the Caribbean lilt in the arrangement with interspersed steel drums warming your soul as the catchy chorus comes past.

While the melody can hold its own in sophistication and style, Sugar Nova showcases their depth with profound lyricism. The song touches on the issue of anxiety but from another angle. Instead of exploring the despair and frustration associated with anxiety, Eisenstat tells us to clear our heads and not worry about anything. Her gentle and mellifluous vocals slide across your skin like a satin throw while Miller enhances the chilled-out vibe with a soothing melody.

“We wanted ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’ to start minimal to match the idea of shedding anxiety. Then build to the bass drop with the chorus. Rachel delivers a relaxed melody and lyrics clearing your head of anxieties and living in the moment.” – Luke Miller on ‘I Wouldn’t Worry’
