With their EP No Gas, Lost Roads, Stuart Rolfe and the Daylight Stealers has us bopping to the infectious tones of big band country while escaping from the world for a little while. With their latest single ‘Cause’ the Girl’, they are delving into a different aspect of life. Through the country-rock soundscape, they look at the silly things that men do to impress women from skipping school to getting in fights.
The single continues the band’s merger of personal experiences and reflections on the issues that affect most people. It also draws on that stadium feeling that epitomised the EP while adding a touch of humour and daftness. If their EP didn’t get you hooked to their country-rock sound, this light-hearted track probably will.
‘Cause’ The Girl’ has you tapping and bouncing to the beat from the first moment. There is such an infectious feeling to the deep beats that you can’t help but give into them before the rest of the instrumentation make their presence known. That blend of country and rock that had us enthralled by the band’s sound before is on full display through this melody. While an understated movement, there is something about it that sinks into your brain and will not let go. There is a drop in the music for a pulse of beats that is wonderful and emphasises the vocals. The guitar riffs later in the track are perfection and make you smile as you shake your head at the lyrics.
As the beats get you in the opening, the vocals draw you into the opening of the tale of what boys do to get the attention of girls. The creeping out of the house leads to a soaring chorus that is packed with silly things that boys do and the justification of doing it for a girl. As Rolfe lays out everything he has done, you can’t help but smile and shake your head at the antics. His performance has a lively and youthful energy that brings a great vibe to the track. The lyrics are really catchy and the vocal performance has you singing along before you even realise what you are doing.
Stuart Rolfe and the Daylight Stealers combine their infectious sound with youthful energy and the silly things done for a girl’s attention in ‘Cause’ The Girl’. The track has you smiling from start to finish while shaking your head at the antics of the lyrics.
