Steve Young – Feelin’ Fine (2024)

Described as a soulful and emotional performer, Steve Young effortlessly ensnares the audience’s senses with his confident stage presence. Yet, it is not only his powerful performances that oozes anthemic infectiousness; his moving melodies hypnotise internationally. From his EP Little Things in 2014 to the single ‘Looks Like You’ in 2023, the UK-based artist turns the heads of musicians, curators and playlist-haunting listeners across the globe. When not on stage, Steve Young teaches guitar, bass, piano, drums, performance and songwriting to pupils in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire; however, we’re here to explore his journey as a musician.

Following the well-received singles ‘Long Long Road Ahead’ and ‘Looks Like You’, Steve Young leans toward classic rock in his new song ‘Feelin’ Fine’. Yet, while rock and roll rushes across your face, slips of country linger beneath with strong blues guitar slicing through the melody. No attempts at being cool or contemporary, ‘Feelin’ Fine’ breathes life into 60s/70s rock tones dragging a nostalgic thread across decades and generations. So, if you fancied yourself vintage blues and classic rock, then ‘Feelin’ Fine’ is for you; then again, Young can convert modern-day fans of any genre with a strum of his scorching blues guitar.

Listening to ‘Feelin’ Fine’ is like trudging through a mass of sonic swampiness dragging up the heaviness of thick sludge on your boots – but in the best way possible. Pounding drums match sleek guitar solos with a kaleidoscopic flow; however, it is Young’s vocals that add a sense of mysticism and calm to the sonic swamp. With a cheeky wink and big grin, Young’s rich vocals captivate as he shares an honest narrative about love, loss and intricate relationships. He explains:

“Feelin’ Fine is a story about meeting, forming a relationship and falling in love with a fan at a gig. No surprises – it doesn’t end well.”
