St. Loreto – Therapy (2021)
St. Loreto is back with his new single ‘Therapy’ which moves in a new direction to his misery dream-pop debut. Blending alternative pop with RnB tones, he adds a splash of dreamy haze to captivate the senses. With a soul haunting sound, he takes his classical training and wraps it around a new style and sound for something truly unique.
Salvador Frias Jr, the crooner behind the music, taps into the diverse community he grew up in to create his sound. Taking on a moniker that pays tribute to his late grandmother, he traded in his guitar for a Macbook and took on synths and drum machines instead. With this single, he continues to show the versatility he has to offer while giving listeners visuals in his first-ever music video.
‘Therapy’ draws you in with St. Loreto’s vocal line that instantly has you wanting to hum along with it. His vocals have a wonderful RnB vibe to them that is somewhat reminiscent of The Weeknd. The rise and fall of his performance bring the lyrics to life as he works through coping mechanisms. There is a lot of relatable content in the track that you can easily connect with whether you have been in the same position of not. You will get so lost in the single that you will be shocked when it comes to its abrupt end.
Resting under the flowing RnB vocals is a wonderful guitar line. The guitar-driven music forms a foundation for the vocals which carry the main melody of the track. It is a relatively minimalist melodic line which brings the lyrics into stark relief. The interplay between the guitar and vocals creates an earthy vibe that is raw and honest.
The minimalistic vibe of the music is carried over to the music video. Using an old-school reel visual, you see St. Loreto singing while the guitarist plays calmly in the background. There are split-screen moments with St. Loreto on one side and the guitar on the other. The superimposing of a mouth for the humming vocals is a great addition to the video. The inclusion of the lyrics is great, but the clarity of his vocals somewhat negates the need for this. While relatively simple, the video is one that you can watch again and again without getting tired of it.
St. Loreto takes on coping mechanisms through the alt-pop and RnB blend of sounds that is ‘Therapy’. The relatively minimal musical arrangement allows the lyrics to sink into you and hit a little harder. The single is accompanied by an equally minimalist music video that is an absolute pleasure to watch.
