Spyderhuff – Girl in the Photo (2022)

Spyderhuff got us utterly addicted to their bluesy country-rock sound with ‘Lazy Soul’, as they delved into one of the seven deadly sins. They are now diving into a different deadly sin with their single ‘Girl in the Photo’, which is the third track of their SIN7 series. Through this single, the band continues to weave their blues-rock sound around lyrics that focus on the sin of lust.

This rocking look at lust carries a touch of retro vibes, with an infusion of 80s rock, into the seductive bluesy tones of the band. Shaping musical elements to meet their needs, the band bends genres and styles to form a captivating melodic movement. The enthralling flow of the band’s sound continues through this single and will have you eager to hear about the rest of the sins in their series.

A rather epic opening guitar line grabs your attention and thrusts you into ‘Girl in the Photo’. There is a hard rock vibe to the music that is mixed with a darkness that easily borders on obsession. You can feel the tendrils of the guitar flowing into your veins and churning a darkness within. The guitar lines soar out with a slight scream as they scratch at the darkness within. Woven into this darkness is a seductive flow that has you merrily sliding into obsession. It is an extremely interesting melody that uses the guitars perfectly to emphasise the vocals and push you into the sins of the track. Resting below the guitars are drums that shake against the back of your brain, before marching you further under the spell of the band.

The steady march into darkness that comes through the melody is bolstered by the vocals. There is a classic rock vibe to the vocal delivery that curls with a soaring of affection. Through the vocals, you are drawn into undeniable lust for someone, that slowly turns into an obsession that you know you should not have. The lyrics bring a wonderful battering of lust and the forbidden that slowly drives you out of your mind. The darkness of the melody seeps into the vocals, letting you know that the path being taken can end really badly, but there is little you can do about this. This slide into sin is utterly addictive.

With their third single from their SIN7 series ‘Girl in the Photo’, Sypderhuff have you sliding into the darkness of lust and obsession with the forbidden. The soaring guitars churn the darkness within, as you merrily slide down the melody into obsession. The vocals make this slide even better as they curl around the dark desires.
