Bringing the youthful exuberance of the 1990s to modern-day audiences, Spun For Miles is a blast of nostalgia wrapped in shimmering sound with an insatiable vibe to intoxicate everyone. Hailing from Norway, Martin Krokstrands (vocals), Morten Andre Samdals (drums), and Thomas Ingdal (guitar and bass) concoct an electric, energetic and enthusiastic rush of melody; however, just as the songs are exuberant, there is a degree of weightiness to the songs in the intricate arrangements. Following their singles ‘Rip It Open’ and ‘Dominos’, Spun For Miles retains a 1990s alternative rock tone in ‘Mind Of Faults’; yet, as their distinctive rock is evident, a hard-hitting rush to hard rock meets grunge ensues. Crashing drums match a bold bass with scorching guitars weaving through the melody, ‘Mind Of Faults’ hits you between the eyes with its symphonic 90s rock sound. Interestingly, as all elements are distinctive with individuality, it is this distortion that builds the united sound. It is this duality of collision and cohesion that makes ‘Mind Of Faults’ breath-taking.
Tipping you into a whirlpool of rock music, Spun For Miles tosses you from pillar to post. Hazy and intense, the kaleidoscopic walls tingle your skin like a hint of water from a tumultuous ocean. No lull in the music to calm your nerves; no, ‘Mind Of Faults’ is a forceful blast of sound from beginning to end.
One aspect I find intriguing is Spun For Miles’s ability to bring the ferocity of their live performances to a studio recording… and then from there blast through my speakers. While I sit here in my comfortable pyjamas and a cup of tea, I feel as if I am Spun For Miles’ outstanding gigs enjoying the thrill of rock running through my body.
This is my introduction to Spun For Miles, and what an introduction. I’m eager to explore their discography and highly recommend you do so as well! I foresee great things for this Nordic band, and they are definitely ones to watch!
