The single is not your usual breakup song. While the track is full of emotion, it paints a vivid picture of a reflective state of mind. The song is a showcase of the sensitive side of the band and highlights their musical finesse.

‘City Lights’ hooks you from the very start with lyrics that paint a vivid picture. The melody of the track drives forward with guitars that are distorted at times. There is a catchy hook that grabs your attention for the equally catchy chorus.

The vocal performance has a dreamy vibe to it with the soft voice of Somer. His clear vocals make it easier to connect with the emotive and relatable lyrics. The guitar solo and reverb choir in the bridge of the track add a little something to this breakup song. The arrangement of the track is very innovative and takes a different approach to a breakup song.

Spirits Republic use their musical finesse to bypass the clichés of breakup songs with ‘City Lights’. The clear and emotive vocal performance combines with the distorted guitars and reverb choir. The guitar solo adds a little something extra to the track while driving the overall vibe on.
