Spiders Eat Vinyl – Cagliari Dreams (2021)

Taking inspiration from lucid dreaming, travelling and sleep paralysis, Spiders Eat Vinyl draws you into a lush sonic landscape with ‘Cagliari Dreams’. Packed with warm feelings, the single looks at distant places and remembers when we could still visit them. With the haziness of fantasy and the coldness of reality, the band has you wondering if what you remember was real or not.

Fran (vocals), Jonny (guitars, beats, synths) and Jack (keyboards, synths, beats) weave an intricate web of tones that you get stuck in. With a wash of escapism and the blurred edges of memories, their silken sounds catch you as effectively as a spider catches a fly. You will feel the need to relax into their electronic tones while having a little existential crisis.

‘Cagliari Dreams’ has a hazy feeling to the music that makes you think of lazy sunny days with the sun warming your skin. The waves of the music lap against your ears with the higher tones pattering like summer rain on warm soil. There is a very relaxed vibe to the song that also reminds you of the moment between being asleep and awake. Each layer of the melody brings a new feeling of warm and blurriness to your brain while the guitar lines sink into your head and will not shift.

Fran’s vocals enhance the haziness of the melody. Through her performance, you are drawn into the hazy recollection of memories that coat the lyrics. Her voice fills you with warm while creeping with an edge of questioning. This edge makes you question if your memories are correct or not. The lyrics have an interesting structure as they are melodic but wrapped in poetic escapism.

Spiders Eat Vinyl have you resting in the warm and hazy landscape of half-remembered memories with their single ‘Cagliari Dreams’. The music has a hazy vibe that fills you with the sense memory of warm days spent lazing around. The vocals enhance the blurred edges of memories while offers some poetic escapism.
