Sophie Dorsten – Mountain Song (2022)

With a reputation for engaging, soulful and enchanting music, singer-songwriter Sophie Dorsten collaborates with her brother to create intoxicating melodies. Initially performing with her brother Alex at a young age (she was 9 and he was 12), the siblings embraced their passion for music and kept it going. The pair split pursuing solo projects and performing with other bands; however, the pandemic brought them back together. When forced to return home, the Dorsten kids began writing and releasing original music once more. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Mountain Song’.

Having played at various shows and festivals in the Phoenix area, the US-based pair are an established act. In fact, they have moved beyond the boundaries of the USA with a national UK tour in 2022. Described by Less Than 1000 Followers as exciting and emotive, Sophie Dorsten releases her moving, sophisticated sound in ‘Mountain Song’. Following the single ‘Butterflies’, ‘Mountain Song’ is a folk-tinged ballad with a soothing, smooth textured sound. As with ‘Butterflies’, the new single retains a heartfelt tenderness; however, there is a more charming gentleness in the textured single.

Along with poetic elegance in their melodies, Sophie Dorsten’s poetic lyricism adds an intense intimacy to the track. Writing from the heart and individual experiences, the personal narrative in ‘Mountain Song’ connects with audiences on a deeper level – and this is what Sophie aims to do. While she aims to write a meaningful single with a moving theme, it is her wish that people engage with the track and “…let the listener decide what it means to them.”

Sincere, sentimental, honest and poetic, ‘Mountain Song’ is a sophisticated work of art. I cannot wait to hear more from the naturally talented Sophie and Alex Dorsten.
