Sophia Prise – Tripwire (2021)

Sophia Prise is drawing you into a swirling tale of passion, head trips and reaching out for love with ‘Tripwire’. Inspired by the passion that is brought forth in glittering and smoke-filled clubs, she works through the onslaught of read receipts and the search for love that ends in the touch of a hologram. Packed with the darker sides of passion and connection, Prise delves into dark pop with an experimental edge.

Using choral samplings and synths that yawn with yearning, Prise gets you excited for her upcoming EP. As the first single from the EP, this track offers a taster of the darker side of electronic pop that she swirls and twirls into a sonic masterpiece. Drawing on a diverse musical background, she creates songs that are hard to pin down but irresistible.

‘Tripwire’ shimmers to life with an intense yet somewhat ethereal tone. The melody draws you into the smoky darkness that is interspersed with wisps of colour and light. There is a feeling of the Northern Lights to the track as the electronic notes undulate through the dark soundscape like the lights of the Aurora. Through all of this, you feel the urge to give in to the seductive flow of the music as it whirls and twists around you.

As the music swirls around you, Prise’s vocals dances across the lights of the melody. There is an undeniable rise and fall to her performance that is so subtle but works so perfectly with the emotions of the track. Through the lyrics, she takes you on a journey of momentary connection and the evaporation of passion as time continues. Her voice reaches out for the connection only to be met by the melting wisps of lights that break apart as you try to grab them.

Sophia Prise draws you into the undulating darkness only for lights and colours to swirl around you in ‘Tripwire’. The single is rather irresistible as it draws you into the dark passions of a club only to have this run through your fingers like smoke. Her vocals are seductive as the melody brings a smooth dark pop sound to our ears.
