slowride – Forever In My Head (2021)

Formed in early-2020, slowride is the latest collaborative project from lifelong friends Ali Epstone, Phil Jones and Tomas Oliver Moore. Merging the sounds of pop-rock and indie-pop with twinges of post-punk, the UK-based trio layers engaging lyrics over smooth melodies. Receiving critical acclaim from It’s All Indie, Carte Blanche Music, Rock ‘n Load Magazine and Lost In The Manor for their debut single ‘I Feel Like You’, slowride is reaching audiences across the globe. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Forever In My Head’.

Following their upbeat debut single ‘I Feel Like You’, ‘Forever In My Head’ is a swirl of synth-laden pop buoyancy. Combining strong drums with dynamic guitars and infectious synths, ‘Forever In My Head’ effortlessly pushes you into a hazy soundscape. While there is a melodic cascade of harmonies, the bold instrumentation has a hushed tone that is haunting and beguiling. Yet, it is the gritty vocals of Ali Epstone that add a rough and brash feel.

What I love about slowride is the eloquent execution of their insightful lyricism. ‘Forever In My Head’ exposes that point when you are ready to change your life. Writing about the essence of human existence, the lads showcase their ability to speak about deep stuff but retain a lighthearted quality. Powerful with some thought-provoking lyrics, ‘Forever In My Head’ is a compelling track with a lingering sense of optimism, hopefulness and joy.

“‘Forever In My Head’ is about walking the wire and living life on the razors edge. The balancing of keeping your shit together until you realise that’s no way to live and you’re ready to make a change… The lyrics “How do I make that sound forever happen in my head” is referring to the momentary glimmers of hope, sparks of joy, clarity and positivity that you feel when you are in the spiral of doom. Learning to harness and cultivate those positive feelings and see them for what they should be is all part of the constant battle of conquering balance in life.” – slowride on ‘Forever In My Head’
