Skycabin – Shame (2020)

Merging elements of grunge and downtempo alternative rock, Skycabin is an eclectic Chicago-based duo. Having formed in 2020, the group (does two people count as a group?) maintains a relatively “newbie” status; however, this has not stopped Farbod and Sepand from reaching a global audience. Featured in Upstream Indie, Stereo Stickman, Nova Music Blog and several online radio stations, Skycabin is sharing their experimental and innovative style with the masses. The latest addition to their repertoire is the single ‘Shame’.

Moving on from the downtempo singles ‘Prelude’ and ‘Secrets’, Skycabin adopt a far more industrial rock/grunge style in ‘Shame’. Using pounding drums, dynamic guitars and a tinge of synth-pop undertones, the track exude a gothic soundscape suited for any dystopian soundtrack. Touching on elements of despair, angst and fear, ‘Shame’ has an eerieness that enters the soul and gives you chills. Yet, while the melody is haunting in itself, it is the incorporation of moving vocals that evokes an overall otherworldly sound.

Influenced by Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails and Massive Attack, ‘Shame’ finds the delicate balance between ruggedly robust and whimsically ethereal. Despite being a painful and desperate track, the richness of the vocals add an uncertain warmth mingled with lingering melancholy. Sincere, but in a dark way, Skycabin add raw honesty in this toe-tingling, spine-chilling and highly infectious new single.

Side note: Skycabin released a music video for ‘Shame’ which can be viewed here.
