Skar de Line – A Way (2023)
Ask yourself this: if you were to make your own rules, would you ever be wrong? Well, in a legal sense, you might be but what in a creative sense? What about an individual, spiritual or metaphysical sense? This is the question singer-songwriter Skar de Line explores in his music. Led by the belief in freedom, unpredictability and perfection, he desperately searches for ways to “break the lines we set up around ourselves…”
Already on our virtual pages, Skar de Line has hit us between the eyes with thought-provoking melodies; however, we are not the only ones whose heads are being turned. He has received coverage from Less Than 1000 Followers, SONO Music, We Write About Music, Eclectic Music Lover, RGM, and many more. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘A Way’.
The fourth chapter of his autobiographical suite of music, ‘A Way’ follows ‘Reset’, ‘New Silhouettes’ and ‘No Eyes In Paradise’; it also happens to be de Line’s first release of 2023. As with his previous work, there is an intriguing curiosity to de Line’s music with its cinematic soundscape. Yet, while this otherworldliness can be felt in each song, there is diversity with each single highlighting de Line’s innovativeness as an artist. Perhaps it is the fact that he discusses different life experiences that contribute to the change in style and genre.
In an interview with RGM, Skar de Line shared that it is his perspectives that make him stand out as an artist – “…you can take everything of me, my voice, my sound, my visuals, whatever…but my ideas, my mind, will go through everything I do. I have a tendency of twisting the way I look at things to find ways that aren’t what you would expect…” This is clearly seen (or rather heard) in ‘A Way’.
The track is an electropop tune using a synth-driven ambience placing you in an ethereal whirlpool, but it is far more than the melody that has the otherworldly profoundness. Based on a suicide attempt he witnessed, ‘A Way’ has a vulnerable, haunting and slightly surreal feeling. In the same interview with RGM, de Line explains that “this song dives into what I felt about the experience, the uncomfortable feelings and thoughts it left me with about myself, who I am and what I stand for.”
