Silas Armstrong – Silver (2022)

Influenced by diverse artists ranging from Toto to Dave Grohl, singer-songwriter Silas Armstrong blends a melting pot of styles into his unique sound. Already a regular on The Other Side Reviews, we are acquainted with Armstrong’s musical project; however, he was not always a solo artist. In fact, he performed with numerous bands including indie-rock group Kid Champion, pop group Youth Club, and even supported Panic at the Disco on their European tour. Now, he’s hitting us again with his latest single ‘Silver’.

Following his singles ‘Cornflakes’ and ‘Amber (J Hustl3 remix’, Silas Armstrong brings the nostalgic sound of the 80s to modern-day audiences. Infectious and toe-tapping, the melodic arrangement elegantly combines dynamic guitars, pounding drums and delicate synths in a well-textured way. Upbeat and fun-loving, the laidback and toe-tapping tune can make you smile from the first chord. Add the sexy saxophone and you have a soothing pop song with a bit of a sensual vibe to it.

Lying somewhere between Don Healy and Spandau Ballet with the reflective sound, ‘Silver’ is a toss back to a time when music was simple and simple was good. With strong road-trip vibes, I can easily see this being my favourite song on the cassette tape I made for this journey. Inspired by his mother – the silver lining – ‘Silver’ is the first release on a six-month single campaign leading to his upcoming album. I cannot wait for the rest of the songs from Silas Armstrong.
