Sigmund Faust – Beach Day Dreamscape (2022)

The solo project of German musician Marc Vogler, Sigmund Faust is a mishmash of diverse genres and is not to be pigeon-holed. From post-rock to indie-rock and surf, the eclectic fusion of sound is something truly unforgettable. With over a decade of experience in the music industry, Vogler has created music in many forms from songwriting to heavy metal and contributes to films and games. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Beach Day Dreamscape’.

In his interview with the music blog Mystic Sons (published in 2020), Marc Vogler explained that he tends to improvise when creating music and is inspired by music itself – “…music inspires music, your own, as much as being around many different forms of music, wanting to experiment, refine and trying to figure out where the ideas went wrong.” ‘Beach Day Dreamscape’ is merely another of his pieces that embody this inspiration and creativity.

Following his single ‘March Sweet Blunder’, ‘Beach Day Dreamscape’ is a chilled-out arrangement that might be tossed into the indie-rock meets surf-rock category. Then again, I am not always a fan of categorising artists; however, the harmonious combination of distorted guitars and pounding drums have an indie-rock/grunge design. Leaning toward the 90s rock sounds there is a nostalgic flair in the melody. Yet, while Vogler takes us back to yesteryear, he retains a contemporary boldness that connects with modern-day audiences.

As with ‘March Sweet Blunder’, Vogler adopts a rich, bold and snaps you to attention in ‘Beach Day Dreamscape’. The thing is, while he certainly pulls you to attention with the new single, a hazy ambience exists in a kaleidoscopic soundscape. You can imagine lying back on a deckchair enjoying the scent of the ocean blowing across your face. Laidback chills and groovy vibes are the order of the day.

Sincere, sentimental and filled with unique originality, ‘Beach Day Dreamscape’ sends your soul soaring with its intriguing sound.
