SIESKI – Happy To Be Here (2023)

For approximately five years (according to Spotify), singer-songwriter SIESKI has been entertaining the masses with her playful, cheeky, mischievous pop sound. In her 2019 debut single ‘I Feel Ya, Ophelia’, the Canadian musician captured the intensity of Ophelia’s madness with an obscure alt-pop melody. In 2021’s ‘Lady Deity’, she added an electronic element to her pop music, and in 2022 she fused the electronica with off-kilter vocals in the well-received ‘Scale Model’. Shifting once again, SIESKI hones her sound with the obscure single ‘Happy To Be Here’.

Following ‘Scale Model’, I expected something more in line with commercial synth-pop; however, SIESKI’s eclecticism bursts through in ‘Happy To Be Here’. Just as she captured the insanity of Hamlet’s Ophelia so many years ago, she expresses feelings of tranquillity and ecstasy in the new single. Recorded with producer Josh Eastman, ‘Happy To Be Here’ is “inspired by that fuzzy feeling of a golden hour drive” and elegantly translates this to a cinematic melody.

Combining electronic beats with soothing synths, SIESKI sets you off on a glittering river of sound with kaleidoscopic lights all about. Warm, rich and magical, ‘Happy To Be Here’ is wistful and whimsical with a charming shiver of ethereal mysticism. The melody, at least for me, is slightly haunting with the fuzzy flow; however, SIESKI’s moving vocals pull you into a warm hug making you feel like everything is going to be alright.

Bold, warm and rich, ‘Happy To Be Here’ is a laidback song perfect for those long sunny days when you become lost in a world of fantasy. Yet, while there is a chilled vibe with familiar pop tones, a slice of Amanda Palmer shivers in with SIESKI’s daring voice.
