Sicily Jordan – You Got Me (2022)

Sicily Jordan first paid tribute to all the love songs that could have been in ‘Lonely Lover’, before turning inward for the soulful sound of ‘Gloriana’. Now, she is bringing a blast of futuristic and retro tones that get you dancing to the sound of ‘You Got Me’. Leaving you with a feeling of familiarity tempered by something wonderfully new, the single is a huge pop-dance track that is just bursting with energy.

A single that is sure to become a summer favourite on your top playlist, it is packed with fantastic lyrics, powerful vocals and music that infects your muscles with dancing energy. Written during a blast of inspiration that saw the first line of the chorus running through her head, the single was not meant to be part of her debut EP. Once industry legend Barry Fasman heard the track, he had a different idea and the single was transformed into the engaging sound we now hear.

‘You Got Me’ pushes you through the opening as the melodic tones swarm your senses and head into a rather groovy bassline. The vibrations of the bassline bring a thrum of energy to the melody that really hits its stride on the chorus. There is a touch of old-school disco to the melody that is tempered by a more contemporary pop sound. There is no way that you can stay still as you listen to the melody, with that bassline infiltrating your senses and coiling in your muscles, waiting to unleash its energy. Later in the track, the retro disco vibes are taken to another level while the horns burst and spin around your head. It is a perfect combination of old and new dance-pop sounds that blast their energy into your bones.

While the melody does have you moving to its rhythm, Jordan’s performance grabs your hands, hauls you to the dancefloor and starts spinning you around. Her performance slowly builds through the opening verse, before heading out of the stratosphere on the chorus. The rise of her voice on the chorus leaves a trail of glittering energy that lights a path you are unable to deny dancing down. There is a slight rise and fall to her delivery as the verses drop for a softer movement that leads to the burst of the chorus. Woven into her infectious performance is the same combination of new and old as the melody, that spins everything higher and higher.

Sicily Jordan grabs you by the hands, hauls you to the dancefloor and spins you into the dizzying futuristic-retro heights of ‘You Got Me’. The melody and vocals are a stunning balance of old-school disco and contemporary pop that is sure to get you dancing to the single. Utterly bursting with energy, the music coils inside just looking for a moving outlet.
