Shenanygans – All The Trippin’ Around (2024)

Combine the talents of Irish musicians Dan Hannon-Barry and Kaylem Hannon-Barry on guitars and vocals, Swiss multi-instrumentalist Tom Brunner on drums, and Swiss-Polish singer Luki Helmann playing bass, and what do you have? Shenanygans, that’s what you have. Filled with cheeky mischief and wicked rambunctiousness, Shenanygans is energetically exuberant and insanely infectious. While the band was founded in early 2023, the group is turning heads on a global scale. From the UK to the USA, France, Brazil, Switzerland and Ireland (to name but a few), Shenanygans intoxicate audiences with confident ease.

Following the well-received debut single ‘Count On Me’, Shenanygans release the sophomore single ‘All The Trippin’ Around’. While the tune can appeal to fans of contemporary indie-rock, Shenanygans breathe life into 70s and 80s rock with this track. Brunner’s drums match Helmann’s brooding bass as both Hannon-Barry lads intertwine soothing guitars in the harmonic melody. Interestingly, while a symphonic flow oozes from the charming tune, a mild distortion breaks the glassy surface adding the “fuzziness” of 80s rock.

A mystical arrangement with powerful instrumentation, but it is not how we hear the melody that captures its essence, it is what we feel. Slipping the psychedelic impressions of The Doors and The Mamas & The Papas, ‘All The Trippin’ Around’ drops you into the “wow, that’s a bit crazy” fuzziness of 70s folk-rock meets psychedelic-rock insanity. The layered hush of Dan Hannon-Barry and Kaylem Hannon-Barry’s voices keeps each wave coming as you laze in a rippling ocean of hypnotic musical experiences. Shenanygans explain:

“’All The Trippin’ Around’ is a song about being on the road. Musicians know the feeling of losing any sense of time or space once they are a couple of days in a tour. Gigs, parties, meetings, hotels, sleepless nights, strange substances, long ways of travelling and new friendships all blur together into one huge whirl of crazy impressions.”
