She Made Me Do It – Otherworldly (2021)

She Made Me Do It combine the physical and emotional for their single ‘Otherworldly’. Through the charged rock tones, the band draws you into an out of body experience complete with betrayal, pain, heartbreak and physical numbness. With heartfelt lyrics and kinetic energy, the track has you soaring on a spacy vibe while inundated with the emotions of the experience.

Shaheena Dax (vocals, bass, keyboards), Will Crewdson (guitar, vocals, keyboards) and Joe Holweger (drums) pack a lot into this track. As a taster for their EP of the same name, it will make you want to find the rest of the songs. Combining electronic tones with the pumping sound of the band, they have you riding the emotions of the track late into the night.

‘Otherworldly’ patters to life with light tapping tones before the guitar grabs your hand and draws you into space. There is an interesting movement in the music that combines sadness with space. The spacy feeling of the music has you floating in a void while the guitars thrust an intense emotional hit through your chest. Through the melody, you feel your spirit lift out of your chest to mimic the out of body experience of the single. The different melodic elements tap across your senses to add depth to the emotions of the vocals.

As the melody pulls you into the void, Dax’s vocals are a ray of light that stabs through the darkness. While her voice has a wonderful lightness against the void of the music, there is nothing happy to be had from them. Through her performance, she hits you with a sense of betrayal, confusion and heartbreak. Combined with the melody, she is able to create a strange numbness while still hitting you over the head with the emotions of the lyrics. The chorus is unbelievably catchy and you are going to want to scream out with Dax.

She Made Me Do It thrust you into the spacy void only to fill you with feelings of betrayal, confusion, numbness and anguish in ‘Otherworldly’. You are sent into the inky darkness of space through the melody only to have Dax’s vocals shoot through you and bring all the hurt of the lyrics. The band is able to create a floating numbness that is filled with so much emotion.
