Shaun Riley – Secret (2021)

When you start a new relationship, there are certain infatuations that come with it. Shaun Riley takes these feelings of infatuation and threads them into the dirty pop song ‘Secret’. With a touch of synths, he borders on anthemic while showing what he has to offer and teasing his album.

A solo pop artist, Riley wrote, recorded and mixed the single at his home studio. With influences that range from Lorde to Elliott Smith and Troye Sivan, he has you falling into the emotions of the single while getting down to his grooves. If you are looking for a guilty pleasure single that offers all the overwhelming emotions that come with new relationships, this is the one for you.

The beats of ‘Secret’ pulse against your ears before synths patter against them. There is an almost raindrop quality to the synths before the clicking notes add a smattering of sound over them. As you approach the chorus, a swell of synths comes up from the depths of the melody. This comes to a crescendo on the chorus for a wonderful dirty pop sound. There is a depth to the music that is delightful while the higher tones add the lights of infatuation.

Riley’s vocals are seductive and sultry over the synths with a smoothness that twirls around you and pulls you further into the emotions of the track. There are moments of bright tones in his performance that fills your heart with light and happiness. Closer to the end of the track, there is a slight change in the music and vocals which adds richness to the song. At this time, you are covered in a blanket of affection before an almost organic tone takes over. The pulse of synths has you riding the emotions to the end of the single.

Shaun Riley patters your senses with synths while filling you happy infatuations through the sounds of ‘Secret’. The dirty pop sounds enhance the smooth seduction of his vocals as he draws you close. The blanket of affection he covers you with will have you lost in his sound and shocked when the single comes to an end.
