Shany Bartal – Ms Monroe (2023)
Fusing elements of blues, rock and jazz in a groovy sonic package, singer-songwriter Shany Bartal is bringing something new to the table. A rising artist, this Israel-based musician is the embodiment of a strong individual promoting empowerment and freedom. While we only have one single to work with, Shany Bartal is already turning heads across the board. Featured on Rising Artists Blog, Illustrate Magazine, Plastic Magazine, Music For All, Only Rock Radio and many more, Bartal is reaching audiences on an international scale.
Collaborating with music industry professionals, multi-instrumentalist Roy Rabinovichi and producer Joseph E-shine, Shany Bartal released her debut single ‘Ms Monroe’ earlier this year. Tugging us back to the sounds of the 70s, a strong blues-rock sound blasts through our speakers from the get-go. Strong horns (courtesy of Rabinovichi) match pounding drums and a dynamic guitar with each instrument adding its own flair to the song. While the drums and guitars certainly have an impact on the boldness of the melody, it is the horns that bring something special to ‘Ms Monroe’. Although, I have to mention the hard-hitting, toe-tapping, mind-blowing rock guitar flowing through the arrangement.
Reminiscent of the jazz-rock band Chicago with powerful horns and bold guitars, Shany Bartal is a modern-day representation of old-school awesomeness. The instrumentation can hold its own with the kaleidoscopic melody; however, it is Bartal’s vocal execution that adds a rugged element to the track. As she taps into her obscure, gruff eclectic side, an overwhelming sense of nostalgia breaks through. Moreover, the groovy grittiness of her rocker style seems to express the message of empowerment, freedom and self-discovery in ‘Ms Monroe’.
“The song speaks about an unrequited love, but between the lines, you can really sense that the track’s real greatness is portrayed by highlighting female empowerment, “Fuck You” attitude, and the “Yay Me!” being celebrated with much self-confidence, acceptance and completion.” – Shany Bartal on ‘Ms Monroe’
