Shakota – Toulouse Blues (2021)

Shakota is taking his raw talent and unique bedroom pop take to a whole new level with his single ‘Toulouse Blues’. Following on from his previous releases, he swirls guitars and shimmering tones around your head for a truly unique listening experience. With a touch more maturity and sophisticated crafting of melodies, he has you lost in his sound.

The single is one of the songs off his upcoming District Love EP and gives you a wonderful taste of what is to come. With a natural talent for storytelling, he artfully moulds music into relatable threads that link to listeners lives. Using soulful vocals, he takes you on a musical journey that you will not forget any time soon.

‘Toulouse Blues’ draws you in with a relaxed and sunny vibe. The melody has a rather interesting movement that is partially stop-start and other part catchy pop beats. The beats are met by a wave of piano notes that adds to the lazy feeling of the music. Each element brings a new layer to the melody that all combine for a rather captivating flow. It is a very unique movement that has been wonderfully executed to create a solid melody that bolsters the smoother vocals.

Shakota’s vocals continue the lazy summery vibe of the music while making you think of sunny summer days. The easy vibes of the vocals are tempered with the slightly nostalgic feeling of the performance. There is a search for escapism within the vocals which is an interesting counter to the melodic vibes of the single. The lyrics are quite easy to connect with, particularly in relation to the last year. There is a call woven into the vocals that make you wish for something better than the blues you might be facing right now.

Shakota uses a mature style to fill you with hazy warmth and a search for escapism in the warm flows of ‘Toulouse Blues’. The single uses multiple layers of melodic elements to fill you with the sense of lazy summer days. This is countered with the vocals that bring a more down to earth feeling while wanting to escape from the emotions of today.
