Seven Red Lions – Titan (2024)

Drawing together the flavours of various countries, UK-based Seven Red Lions is a symphony of international artists. Vocalist and guitarist David Lion represents Mexico, while bassist Sara Priegue brings Portugal to the mix. Joined by guitarist Magnus from Sweden and drummer Omar Perez from Venezuela, this band is a melting pot of sound, diversity, influences and culture. Known for their outstanding performances, Seven Red Lions send electricity through your veins (not literally), throw energy in your ears and intoxicate your mind, body and soul.

While we might have arrived late to the party, as Seven Red Lions have been releasing music since 2016, we are thrilled to be here. Following their well-received single ‘I Wanna Tell You’, the new single ‘Titan’ has Seven Red Lions continue to push the boundaries of alternative rock. Similar to ‘I Wanna Tell You’, a classic rock element breaks in with Magnus’ searing guitar; however, Priegue’s bold bass pushes some hard rock edges. Perez’s pounding drums crash behind with heavier tones, while Lion flourishes with alternative rock. Interestingly, while a contemporary flair exists in this melodic concoction, ‘Titan’ breathes life into the sound of the 70s.

With a blazing obscurity, the single evokes a hazy whimsy with delicate charm, but it also pushes you about with abrupt tempestuousness. Listening to Seven Red Lions for the first time, there is a kick of refreshing diversity in a sometimes-stagnating rock world… then again, the band holds you close with ‘Titan’ as you dance about to a nostalgically familiar tune making them seem an old friend instead of new acquaintance.

The melody itself is intriguing and intoxicating in its complexity, but it is the lyricism and concept that adds greater depth. Taken from their upcoming album Temple Road – “a profound exploration of the human condition” – ‘Titan’ is a commentary on isolation in an overwhelming society, the fear and turmoil we experience living in an oppressive reality and “the endless struggle to escape…”
