Segana – Fever Dreams (2023)

With the heart-pumping, pulsating tones of electropop, Australian duo Segana can have you twirling about in a haze of sublimeness without much effort. The brainchild of Josh Paltoo and Blair Djuna (who we happen to have reviewed earlier this month), Segana is vibrant, vivid and intoxicating. Known for their high-energy performances, the lads have garnered a loyal following from their shows. However, they are far more than a good gig with their music turning the heads of global audiences. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Fever Dreams’.

A pioneering synth-pop pair, Segana invoke pop passion in listeners of all ages – and they continue to do this with the track ‘Fever Dreams’. Not only is ‘Fever Dreams’ Segana’s first release in 2023, but it is their first release in four years. Following the single ‘Feel’, the new song retains the “pop-ness” of the duo but with greater sophistication. As I mentioned, Segana is a heart-pumping project, which is highly evident in the vibrant ‘Fever Dreams’.

Perfectly named, listening to the new single is like experiencing a fever dream – flying through a kaleidoscopic madness with bright lights twirling about you as you move faster and faster within the sonic whirlpool. A nostalgic flair slithers through ‘Fever Dreams’ taking one back to the 1980s with its synth-pop sound; but, a tinge of contemporary electropop is sprinkled atop making it easy to place on modern-day pop charts. Bold, brash and filled with authenticity, Djuna and Paltoo seamlessly fuse the hard-hitting melody with charming vocals. Although, keeping up with the pace of the vocals is another thing altogether.

Fun, exciting, intriguing and engaging, Segana makes everyone happier with their anthemic, chaotic and chart-topping (at least it should be) single ‘Fever Dreams’.
