Sean Kennedy – Let It Go (2024)

At the age of 10, US-based Sean Kennedy began his passionate relationship with music; but, the burning embers were already there he just needed to leap. He quickly learned to compose songs and after learning to play the piano and guitar, Kennedy entered the world of recording and production. A few years ago, 2019 to be exact, he released his debut album Tell Me and quickly began making waves in the music scene. Jump ahead to 2023 and his fourth album Forever Us tantalises international audiences garnering a loyal following for the innovative artist.

In our 2023 interview with Sean Kennedy, he shares: “music is my way of expressing myself. Each of my records preserves the emotions and stories of myself from that time…”; this is overwhelmingly evident in his song ‘Let It Go. The critically acclaimed Forever Us tapped into his experiences of love and loss, and ‘Let It Go’ places a band-aid on his broken heart. Kennedy explains:

“I felt like my last record left off on a cliff hanger. I had just gotten out of a long-term relationship, and I really wasn’t ready to move on. I see this track as one last goodbye to that point in my life before I move on.”

Recently signed with Rexius Records, ‘Let It Go’ is Kennedy’s return to indie-pop from his indie-rock single ‘Forever Us’. Penned by Kennedy and co-produced with Kazakhstani producer KRYNE, ‘Let It Go’ immediately drops you into a slew of synths, beats and underlying strings enhancing the fragility of the single. Yet, while a harmonic union is heard between Kennedy’s rich vocals and the instrumentation, there is a disconnect between the two.

Beautifully layered and textured, the synth-filled melody rushes beneath with pulsating beats expressing the conflicting underbelly of relationships. The top level, however, is dominated by Kennedy’s rich vocals acting as the heart speaking to the head making firm decisions. I find it intriguing that while both sides whisper vulnerability, ‘Let It Go’ culminates in hopeful empowerment and acceptance.

In addition to the single, Sean Kennedy released an official music video for ‘Let It Go’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
