Sean Kennedy – Insane (2025)
Over the past few years, although his natural talent has been shining bright for over a decade, Sean Kennedy has quickly established himself as one of the more exciting acts in the indie-pop scene. Turning heads internationally, he is critically acclaimed far beyond his US borders. Already a regular on The Other Side Reviews, Kennedy’s music seems charming, intriguing, emotional, tender, soothing, disconcerting, and very memorable. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Insane’.
A taster to his upcoming full-length album, set for release later this year, ‘Insane’ is a dramatic sweep of indie-pop laced with tendrils of rock-inspired sounds. Definitely one of the heavier songs in Kennedy’s discography – or at least in my opinion. Listening to ‘Insane’ is like drifting into a sonic whirlwind. Kaleidoscopic with the crashing drums, soaring guitars and bold bass, tumultuous music rushes past your head; however, a hint of soothing and sincerity exists, making the track pulsating and smooth.
Known for his emotional lyricism and heartfelt delivery, Kennedy taps into the grittier side of humanity. For me, ‘Since You Left’ and ‘Let It Go’ explore the complexities of relationships, ‘Insane’ tackles something slightly deeper, or rather its intricacy captures raw emotion with a greater intensity.
Jumping headfirst into the chaotic realm of self-reflection, inner turmoil, frustration, confusion, and despair, ‘Insane’ is a dark mire of lost sighs; however, duality exists with an oscillation between light and dark. With Kennedy’s highly emotional vocals, ‘Insane’ is intensely intimate as he guides you through inner conflict, but simultaneously, there is a sense of acceptance, empowerment and hope. He explains:
“This song, and my upcoming record as a whole, is about internal reflection. It’s assessing myself and asking, “What led me to this moment?”…”
In addition to the single, Sean Kennedy released an official music video for ‘Insane’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
