Sarpa Salpa – She Never Lies (2023)

Described by BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders as a band who “…will provide that rush of serotonin that you need”, UK-based Sarpa Salpa can make any day that much more enjoyable. With insatiable tunes, engaging performances and coverage on notable publications and radio, Sarpa Salpa are garnering a loyal following across the globe. In fact, they have performed at festivals like SXSW, The Great Escape and Festival Les Expressifs, as well as supporting artists like McFly, The Lottery Winners and The Amazons. The latest addition to their critically acclaimed discography is ‘She Never Lies’.

Following their well-received track ‘Dreaming’, the lads adopt a harder, heavier indie-rock sound in ‘She Never Lies’. Interestingly enough, while there is a nostalgic flair to the synth-pop and indie-rock sounds of the 80s, a contemporary edge exists enhancing the originality and versatility of Sarpa Salpa. Moreover, there is a greater sophistication to the arrangement with guitars, drums and keys blending elegantly.

While ‘She Never Lies’ is a development in the band’s catalogue, it seems to retain an innocence in the melody – particularly with the vulnerable richness of Marcus Marooth’s vocals. It may be that ‘She Never Lies’ was originally penned back in 2016, but perhaps the gentle and rough tones are part of Sarpa Salsa’s charm.

“’She Never Lies’ was one of the first songs we wrote together as a band way back in 2016 when we still rehearsed at Marcus’ parents’ house! It’s become a live fan favourite and we felt like it was the perfect time to revisit it in a studio setting. We’re so proud of how it turned and think it’s some of our best work to date.” – Sarpa Salpa on ‘She Never Lies’

Insatiable, intriguing and filled with an intimate intensity, Sarpa Salpa has you grinning with their latest single.
