Sarantos – Labor Day (2023)

When we left Sarantos, the US-based musician was exploring the intricacies of humanity with slices of hip hop, electronica and pop in ‘I Got No Money’. He tackled the issue of being penniless and how demoralising it can be merely existing from day to day in a capitalist society. Now, he touches once more on human existence but with a slightly more optimistic twist. Instead of doom and gloom, an empowering smile breaks through in the new single ‘Labor Day’.

On the heels of his well-received single, ‘Can’t Sleep’, award-winning singer-songwriter Sarantos shifts from an EDM-heavy sound to pop-rock stylings in ‘Labor Day’. Finding a line between electronic and organic instruments, the bold electropop beats seamlessly fuse with pounding drums while guitars traipse along the melody. Weaving an acoustic guitar with electric lead guitar, you find the best of both worlds licking various flavours of rock all the while. While the power of this single tips its hat to 90s pop-rock, it is the light interspersed strings shimmering in the back that bring a contemporary edginess to the song.

Bold and brash, we know Sarantos as a talented hip-hop artist; however, he throws rap aside releasing catchy pop-rock vocals in ‘Labor Day’. Warm, bright and filled with energy, Sarantos’s vocals seem to lift you up and carry you about with sincere enthusiasm. I could compare him to Weezer or Blink 182 but there is an indefinable uniqueness oozing through Sarantos’ ‘Labor Day’.

As I mentioned, Sarantos can effortlessly translate human complexity into song and ‘Labor Day’ is an inspiring representation of hope, joy and positivity. Inspired by “the end of summer and the beginning of fall, while also reflecting on the labour that we do throughout our lives to achieve our goals. Whether it be physical labour, mental labour or emotional labour, this song celebrates the universal power of hard work.”

In addition to the single, Sarantos released an official music video for ‘Labor Day’. This video can be viewed below or on Sarantos’ YouTube channel.
