Sarah Moon – Cut & Run (2022)
With her single ‘Cut & Run’, Sarah Moon is not only giving us a taste of her album of the same name, but also showcases her fantastic rock sound. The single brings a hit of classic rock to a foundation of alternative rock tones, before Moon’s vocals hit you in the chest. Commanding and charismatic, the single is a stunning opening salvo for the album as a whole and is sure to have you heading off to listen to the rest of the tracks.
Through her music, she pays homage to her influences, ranging from blues rock to classic rock, while infusing a style that is purely her own. While Moon grew up in a musical household, she started singing as a child and landed her first gig with the Rapid City Children’s Choir. Since then, she went through classical training before forming a band of her own to further pursue her musical dream.
‘Cut & Run’ has a classic rock blast in the opening through the drums to the rush of guitars. There is a rather retro vibe to the opening of the melody that has you thinking about some of the great classic rock bands. The melody gets a little stop-start feeling over the verses, giving a sense of punctuation to Moon’s vocals. This all flows back into a blast of guitars that sweeps you off your feet while also making you want to dance around like crazy to the energy of the movement. The electric guitar is fantastic on this track as it calls out like a voice on its own, only to curl around Moon’s vocals for a wonderful melodic dance. Once the melody hits the ground, it doesn’t let up for a single second, with the drums pounding into your bones and the guitars flying on the power of pure rock.
While the melody is an outstanding testament to rock, Moon’s vocals really hold their own against the pulse of the music. Her voice calls out with a commanding style that instantly grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. She also beautifully showcases the range of her performance, from punchy rock to a high note that is not to be missed. There is so much energy and passion in her performance that you can’t help but want to shout out with her, particularly in the chorus. While you are rocking out to her performance, the lyrics yank you into a story of walking away from the drama of life.
Sarah Moon brings a blast of pure rock to our ears as she packs commanding vocals and flying guitars into every second of ‘Cut & Run’. Both the melody and vocals carry the essence of great rock songs in their core and inject this directly into your veins. Her performance is passionate, charming and an absolute pleasure to listen to.
