Sano Hill – Starting Over (2022)

Hot on the heels of his well-received debut track ‘The Climb’ (read our review here), Hill captivates one’s heart and mind with ‘Starting Over’. Unlike ‘The Climb’, his sophomore single has a more toe-tapping vibe to the soft rock tones. Opening with a heartfelt rock-inspired guitar, Hill takes your hand and starts to lead you through a poetic musical journey. While you may consider the track to be a simplistic ballad, the incorporation of dynamic guitars, drums and an interspersed piano makes it far more kaleidoscopic.
While retaining a contemporary edge, ‘Starting Over’ seems to have a nostalgic feel to the melody. Taking me back to the soft rock sound of the 1980s, there is a heartfelt whimsy in the soundscape. Yet, the whimsy is overtaken by the harder guitar riffs throughout the track. Accompanied by Hill’s distinctive vocals, a softer and more soothing tinge is added to ‘Starting Over’ in a harmonic movement.
Known for writing insightful tracks that intimately connect with listeners, Sano Hill once again takes on an emotional topic in ‘Starting Over’. Using a personal narrative, Hill touches on the act of reconciliation and overcoming difficult relationships; hence, the name ‘Starting Over’. One of the singles from his upcoming album (tentatively titled If Not Now, When?), this single retains the vulnerability of his music while infusing it with a sense of empowerment. Soothing the soul with his charming tones and moving lyricism, ‘Starting Over’ is the perfect theme song for those romance movies where people take a second chance on love.
