Sandy Martin – Christmas Time Cookies (2024)
While singer-songwriter Sandy Martin may insert pop into her melodies, she is not to be pigeon-holed. From the 2022 pop-rock ‘No Suicide’ to 2023’s electro-infused ‘Blue Powdered Wishes’ and 2024’s country-tinged ‘Think About Me’, Martin pursues an eclectic fusion of unique sound. Experimental and obscure, there is a particular intrigue to Martin’s music; one that has you wondering what you’re about to hear and eagerly entranced by the new slip of sound. The latest addition to Sandy Martin’s discography is the single ‘Christmas Time Cookies’.
Following the well-received single ‘Let’s Get Crazy’ – an ode to summer revelry and the fun it inspires – ‘Christmas Time Cookies’ pays tribute to winter with its happy holiday season. Sandy Martin explains:
“’Christmas Time Cookies’ is about tradition. The long sleepless nights that mothers and grandmas endure in the days building up to Christmas. A party in the kitchen filled with sugar, frosting, wine and dough. Mixing ingredients with recipes from an old book that has been passed down from generation to generation handwritten by grandmother matriarchs from the past. Every family has a version of it…”
Lyrically, ‘Christmas Time Cookies’ transports you to a world of nostalgic memories and cherished moments; however, it is the melody that is the warm embrace from an old friend. Created with Carlos Villalobos Jr and Tim Phoenix, the new single offers heartfelt country vibes with a toe-tapping guitar, twinkling keyboard, and cheery drums bringing up the back. Interestingly, while the instrumentation weaves a festive tapestry of music, it is Martin’s soulful vocals that bind everything in a glorious golden ribbon – kind of like a gift with shimmering wrapping paper.
Do you know all those amazing Hallmark Christmas movies currently on repeat? Well, ‘Christmas Time Cookies’ is perfect as a theme song for any of those films. You can imagine people twirling as snowflakes gently fall and everything’s absolutely Christmas-y fantastic. It doesn’t necessarily fall in line with Die Hard, but Sandy Martin owns Love Actually when it comes to Christmas flicks.
Here’s to a merry Christmas, Sandy Martin country music style!
