Samantha Mora – Luto (2025)

Drawing on the sounds of acts like Billie Eilish and Rosalia, singer-songwriter Samantha Mora adds a contemporary flavour to her pop-inspired style; however, there is far more to Mora than meets the eye. Blending modern-day music with vintage tones, the Canada-based songstress flutters across generations with an unconventional push of RnB, pop, blues and soul. Moreover, her feisty Mexican roots arise in the powerful Latin pop vibe. A plethora of sonic bubbles captured in a bold sonic wrapper, Mora is a bit of everything ready to make her mark. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Luto’.

Following a break from the music scene, Mora returned with her well-received 2024 single ‘Howl’. After a time of transformation, self-discovery and growth, her eclectic style is laid bare before all audiences. Mora explains:

“After being away from music for several years, I found myself in a place where I needed to reconnect with my art. These years of silence were transformative, allowing me to develop a sound that truly represents who I am today…”

Stepping into 2025, Samantha Mora releases her new single, ‘Luto’. Recorded at Wychwood Sound with Chris Da Silva (pre-production) and Alex Fuchs (mixing and mastering), ‘Luto’ is a toe-tapping concoction of music. Silvery pop shimmers down with soul slicing through in a bright blue vein, however, it is the red tinge of traditional Cumbia offering a blast of vibrancy in the melody.

Soothing and serene, ‘Luto’ brims with luscious tranquillity and sincerity, but there is more to the track than what we see on the glistening surface. Melodically, it is fascinating; the lyrics are what ups the ante. Mora shares:

This song was written three years ago, but its meaning feels more relevant than ever. ‘Luto’ is my way of speaking to my family in both Mexico and Canada. By blending English and Spanish, I’m connecting with my roots and my present life. It’s about living fully in the moment, even if that moment includes grief.”
