Samantha Gibb – Tongue-Tied (2023)

Gibb – a surname that has us remembering The Bee Gees’ swagger in white trousers singing ‘Night Fever’. Now, we have another Gibb to add to the memory bank of enchanting music: Samantha Gibb. Inspired by her father Maurice Gibb, she shares that “growing up watching my father really set the bar for what kind of musician and songwriter I want to be…” Well-established in the music industry, Samantha Gibb is not only a solo singer-songwriter but is co-founder and producer at M.E.G. Records/M.E.G. Productions (founded in 2004). Her singing precedes that though with her first single ‘Saturday Night’ released in 1998. Now, 25 years later, Gibb continues to astound audiences with her new single ‘Tongue-Tied’.

Following Her EP, Echoes (The Echo Sessions) and single ‘Sorry Not Sorry’, ‘Tongue-Tied’ is Gibb’s first release of 2023. While her previous single touched on distancing yourself from a potentially bad relationship, ‘Tongue-Tied’ flips things on their head looking at the happier, more jovial side of being in love. It is a tribute to the desire for love, connection and acceptance regardless of who you are. It is a belief in the power of love regardless of your sex, age, religion, gender or sexual orientation, and hopes to promote “keeping negativity out and focusing on what really matters”.

“’Tongue-Tied’ is a feel-good song that will lift your spirits and make you want to dance. It’s a celebration of love in all its forms and an invitation to let go of societal expectations and embrace the joy of connection with others. The song’s infectious energy and positive message will inspire listeners to celebrate love in their own lives…” – Samantha Gibb on ‘Tongue-Tied’

Filled with bright, cheerful pop beats driven by a kaleidoscopic keyboard and synths, ‘Tongue-Tied’ aligns joyful lyricism with a smile-inducing melody. Embracing you in a comfortable sonic hug, Gibb spins about with you in a magical swirl of sound. Reflecting her grinning face, you become lost in this bubble created for two while the world’s negativity bounces off the dazzling walls. One aspect I love, other than the smooth flow of melodies and Gibb’s vocals, is how the lyrics allow you to feel confident lulling you into a sense of security alongside the butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
