Sam Feinstein – Need Me (2024)

Sam Feinstein – a passionate artist whose natural musical talent ignites a burning love for his melodies in pretty much anyone who hears his songs. From the alternative rock and blues sounds of ‘Chasing The Bull’ to ’80s synth-pop ‘Hamster Wheel’, Feinstein has captivated our team’s ears with his diverse discography. Not one to be pigeonholed, this singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist draws on all his musical knowledge and skills to create engaging tunes reaching audiences across the globe far beyond his native USA.

Most often performing as the bassist of synth-pop band, The Monitors, Sam Feinstein’s solo project is only two years old; however, his solo melodies resonate with audiences with intense intimacy. Known for energetic and enigmatic live shows, Feinstein’s charisma bursts forth in his original material. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Need Me’.

Following the track ‘Maslow’s Mountain’, ‘Need Me’ is Feinstein’s single release in 2024. While Feinstein offers diversity in his repertoire, ‘Maslow’s Mountain’ showed an evolution in sound adopting a more experimental quality – an experimental thread that shines through ‘Need Me’. Drifting from synth-pop to progressive rock with hints of pop-rock and gruff metal vocals slithering through the track; ‘Need Me’ is avant-garde in its delivery. One commonality running throughout the single is the nostalgic, old-school style of different genres. From the 70s prog-rock to 90s pop-rock, Feinstein dips into each melting pot with eagerness and most intriguing obscurity.

A rollercoaster of sounds, ‘Need Me’ is a disjointed, abstract and off-kilter production. Yet, while a sense of discomfort and uneasiness lingers in the crazy arrangement, a sense of harmony shimmers beneath the craggy rocks and cliffs. A song about addiction, ‘Need Me’ captures the raw emotions felt from the optimistic highs to desperate lows in its melody. The gruff vocals utter the tragedy of addiction but with an alluring darkness. Feinstein explains:

“This brooding synth-rock ballad song is written from the point of view of an addiction, begging the addict to affirm their love while hinting at the true abusive nature of their relationship…”
