Salads – butterfly sans (2023)

Blending his diverse background with a melting pot of musical genres, singer-songwriter Salads is not one to be pigeonholed. Performing under the stage name Salads, UK-based musician Patty uses hard-hitting production to create kaleidoscopic melodies. Featured in international press like Rock Era Magazine, Fame Magazine, Issue Wire, Existential Magazine, and many more (along with playlists), Salads is building a global following. The latest addition to his repertoire is the single ‘butterfly sans’.

Following his well-received single ‘Drug Dealer!’, Salads retains his signature intimacy within bold, pop-punk tones in ‘butterfly sans’. As with ‘Drug Dealer!’ that oozed vulnerability as it looked at his drug addiction, ‘butterfly sans’ brings another personal narrative to the listener. Digging further into his past childhood traumas, Salads aims to connect with listeners on a deeper level and, hopefully, resonate with those looking to overcome similar issues.

What I find intriguing about Salads is not just the depth of his lyricism and fearlessness to show vulnerability, but how he packages that poignant theme in an upbeat pop-punk rhythm. Combining dynamic guitars with pounding drums, there is a toe-tapping beat to the song’s arrangement. Interestingly enough, while the sonic tapestry burns bright with vibrant colours, it is his hushed vocals that bring a heart-breaking tenderness. The softness of these vocals exceeds any high-paced melodies making the track ferocious, vivacious and anthemic.
