Sadie Nix – Oblivious (2023)

At a young age, singer-songwriter Sadie Nix discovered a passion for music and embraced it entirely. Yet, as the years passed her life took a different turn leading her down another path. Now, at age 38, she’s showing her natural talent as a musician emerging as one of the most exciting up-and-coming pop artists in 2023. Described by notable publications as being “…known for her deep vocals that are filled with emotions“ (Sinusoidal Music) and “…a music approach that hopes to bring real and raw stories to light…” (Rock Era Magazine), Sadie Nix is turning heads with her heartfelt sound. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Oblivious’.

Following her critically acclaimed single ‘Same Song’, Sadie Nix’s new song adopts a soft rock meets RnB sound wrapped in a commercial pop package. Inspired by artists like Dolly Parton and The Cure, Sadie Nix’s music has a hard-hitting intimacy and oddness making her stand out in the crowd. With ‘Oblivious’ there is the obscurity of Prince hidden behind a modern-day contemporary pop style in the line of Taylor Swift. Dynamic instrumentation harmonically melds with her rich vocals offering a powerfully bold ballad. Yet, while there is boldness and strength in the melody, ‘Oblivious’ simultaneously has a vulnerability, fragility and delicacy to it.

Recorded with Alex Robinson and Martin Hollis at Metropolis Studios in London, ‘Oblivious’ is a well-layered and beautifully textured single. As I mentioned, there is a strength to the pop ballad but an intense fragility woven through the sonic tapestry. Dark and hypnotic, ‘Oblivious’ has a rock-tinged edge allowing listeners to feel the despair in the single. Sadie Nix explains that ‘Oblivious’ “is the ultimate heartbreak song as mourning something that never was or could be is so much lonelier than a traditional breakup.”

Sincere, sentimental and tender, Sadie Nix explores the tragedy of a broken heart in her single ‘Oblivious’.
