SABRINA G – High Hopes (Blue For You) (2023)
Described by BBC Radio 6 producer Mark Higgins as “musically turning grey skies blue”, singer-songwriter SABRINA G is the ideal artist to lift your spirits and make everything alright. Along with Mark Higgins, the UK-based musician is turning heads on an international scale featuring on We Write About Music, BBC Introducing and various playlists (including her single ‘Drive’ on a Spotify Editorial Playlist). In fact, SABRINA G has already captivated The Other Side Reviews with her singles ‘Sugar Rush’ and ‘Friends’. Now, she is back with the song ‘High Hopes (Blue For You)’.
Following her single ‘Sugar Rush’, SABRINA G blasts into 2023 with ‘High Hopes (Blue For You)’. As with previous material, she retains a strong electronic pop melody with ‘High Hopes (Blue For You)’; however, this single appears to show a shift in SABRINA G’s sound. More sophisticated with a soothing, soft, gentle tone, ‘High Hopes (Blue For You)’ showcases a more intimate side to SABRINA G. Interestingly, this new single brings a melding of genres with rock-inspired guitars bursting through in the catchy choruses. An electropop-driven song, yet the infusion of rock shows her evolution and innovation as an artist.
Just as the melody is intriguing with a flair for genre-bending, ‘High Hopes (Blue For You)’ has lyrical complexity. From her upcoming EP Hierarchy, set for release late this year, the track touches on the significance and delicacy of self-discovery. SABRINA G explains: “’High Hopes (Blue For You)’ is all about having to listen to thoughts inside your head and knowing when to listen to your head or your heart…”
