Rye Catchers – Sometimes (2022)
The brainchild of US-based producer and songwriter David McClintick Roberts, Rye Catchers is an innovative, eclectic and intriguing solo project. Operating with The Valiant Horizon music label, this veteran producer explores different genres in his work; however, he tends to feel more at home within the electropop style. Already featured on The Other Side Reviews, we are accustomed to Rye Catchers’ non-conformist musicality, but we are not the only ones singing his praises. Featured on Sinusoidal Music, Carte Blanche Music, YMX, Plastic Magazine, Lost In The Nordics and various playlists, the musician is receiving international attention.
Over two decades ago Rye Catchers released his debut track ‘Nothing To Say’ and now we have his song ‘Sometimes’. Following ‘UFO’, the new single adopts an electropop style in an attractive and daring way. In some cases, digital instrumentation can be a little repetitive, but ‘Sometimes’ finds the nostalgic blend of 90s pop with 80s synth-pop in the arrangement. Unlike ‘UFO’ which was a total force of electronic nature running through your head, the new song is slower, steadier, smoother and more flowing.
While the melodic arrangement is intriguing and brings a palpable tension to the listener, it is the rich vocals that bring sensuality to the track. Collaborating with Spanish singer Nekane, ‘Sometimes’ is compelling and slightly melancholic. Interestingly enough, while a profoundness exists within ‘Sometimes’, there is an uplifting joy with Nekane’s sexy vocals.
As I mentioned, Rye Catchers has been featured previously on The Other Side Reviews, but he continues to surprise with his diverse style. I cannot wait for more from this talented producer/songwriter.
