Rumia – Role Model (2025)

If you have a fondness for Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters or Gracie Abrams, the chances are you’ll enjoy Rumia. With a folk-pop meets contemporary pop style, the Germany-based singer-songwriter blends organic with synthetic sounds, finding an obscure line and blurring it. While this is my introduction to Rumia, she has turned heads across the globe with features from notable publications, radio stations, playlists, and her confident performances intoxicating live audiences. The latest addition to her discography is the single, ‘Role Model’.

Just ahead of her upcoming album Old Enough To Save Myself – set for release on 4th April – Rumia shares her intimate single ‘Role Model’. Weaving her poetic lyricism with poignant themes, her songs often reach into intimate personal narratives and ‘Role Model’ is no different. As with her previous track, ‘Shift In The Air’, Rumia used her powerful storytelling skills within an ambient and slightly eerie soundscape; however, the new single appears more upbeat, toe-tapping, and heart-warming – the perfect melodic capturing of an intimate, insightful, and soul-baring phone call between old friends.

This song speaks to the moment when the pedestal crumbles – when we understand that the expectations placed on someone can turn into wounds, and that healing requires accepting reality and moving forward.” – Rumia on ‘Role Model’

Lyrically, ‘Role Model’ brims with vulnerability and poignant sincerity entwined in a tender pop ballad. Recorded and produced with Manuel Colmenero, it’ is a silvery concoction of soaring guitars, bold beats, glistening synths, and Rumia’s rich vocals. Interestingly, while the cinematic soundscape reflects the poignant theme, its light-hearted bop prompts a sense of empowerment and optimism despite the delicate fragility. If ‘Role Model’ is anything to go by, I cannot wait for Rumia’s new album.

In addition to the single, Rumia released an official music video for ‘Role Model’. You can view the video below and/or on her YouTube channel.
